Recipe FAQs

→ Can I swap creamy peanut butter for crunchy?
Sure! If you like texture in your bars, crunchy peanut butter works great and the final treat will still turn out perfectly.
→ What's the best way to store these bars?
Keep them in the fridge inside an airtight container for about a week. For longer storage, freeze them and they'll last up to 2 months.
→ Are these bars gluten-free friendly?
Yes, they can be! Just pick gluten-free graham crackers or cookies, and double-check that the rest of your ingredients are all certified gluten-free.
→ Why does the chocolate crack when I slice it?
If the chocolate's super cold, cracking can happen. Let it sit out for 10 minutes before cutting, or warm up your knife under hot water (and dry it) before slicing.
→ Can I include extras like nuts or candy?
For sure! Toss in chopped nuts, caramel, or even mini candies like M&Ms, and layer them between the peanut butter and chocolate for more flavor and fun.
→ What kind of chocolate should I use for the top?
Semi-sweet chips work best, but you can try milk chocolate for a sweeter flavor or go dark for a deeper, less sweet option. Mixing in a little shortening makes the chocolate less firm if you'd like a softer topping.

Cuisine: American

Yields: 16 Servings (16 bars)

Dietary Preferences: Vegetarian

Ingredients

01 1 cup smooth peanut butter
02 ½ cup salted butter
03 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
04 12 ounces melted semi-sweet chocolate chips
05 1 ½ cups crushed graham crackers

Steps

Step 01

Cover the bottom of an 8x8 dish with foil or parchment. Let extra hang over the edges so you can lift the bars out later.

Step 02

Melt the butter in a big microwaveable bowl. Add peanut butter, graham cracker crumbs, and powdered sugar to it. Give it a good stir until everything's mixed well.

Step 03

Press the peanut butter blend evenly into the prepped baking dish, making sure it’s smooth and flat.

Step 04

Use a medium bowl to heat the chocolate chips in the microwave. Check and stir every 30 seconds until creamy and fully melted.

Step 05

Gently pour the melted chocolate over the peanut butter base. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.

Step 06

Pop the dish in the fridge for about an hour until the layers set and firm up.

Step 07

Lift out the chilled block using the foil or parchment edges. Slice into 16 pieces and dig in!

Notes

  1. They have all the flavor of peanut butter cups, but way easier to make!
  2. For neat cuts, warm your knife with hot water, dry it, and slice. Do this for every cut.
  3. Keep them in the fridge in a sealed container for a week or freeze them for two months.
