Recipe FAQs

→ Why press a small dent on top?

It helps the biscuits stay even while rising, so they don’t tilt or bake unevenly.

→ Does the butter need to be room temp?

Yes! It mixes more evenly into the flour, giving the biscuits their soft texture.

→ What if I skip brushing on the egg mix?

That’s fine! Your biscuits won’t get that shiny golden finish, but adding butter after they’re baked works too.

→ Why is resting the dough important?

Let the dough rest. It lets the flour absorb moisture and softens the gluten so your biscuits are tender.

→ Can these be prepared earlier?

Fresh out of the oven is best. You can, though, freeze the cut dough and bake later.

01 2 cups of plain flour.
02 1½ tablespoons of rising agent.
03 ½ teaspoon of table salt.
04 ⅓ cup of soft butter.
05 ¾ cup of fresh milk.
06 1 tablespoon of melted butter for topping.
07 1 large egg for brushing.
08 1 tablespoon of milk for brushing.

Steps

Step 01

Set oven to 425°F and let it warm up.

Step 02

Stir flour, salt, and the rising agent together.

Step 03

Work in the soft butter until it’s crumbly.

Step 04

Make a little hollow in the middle, pour milk, mix until dough forms, then give it 2–3 minutes of rest.

Step 05

Knead gently, roll to about ¾ inch thick, cut out circles, and press a small dip in the tops.

Step 06

Coat with the egg mix and bake 12-14 minutes till golden. Add melted butter on top before serving.

Notes

  1. The little dip lets them rise evenly.
  2. Best enjoyed warm.
